Gwendolyn Lucille Williams Gilbert, 92, of Morganton, NC transitioned to her Heavenly home on Saturday, March 2, 2024. She was born on January 20, 1932 in Burke County to the late James Alfred Williams and Estelle C. Williams. Gwendolyn was a member of New Bethel Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She attended nursing school in Tennessee. She worked for K-Mart for fifteen years and then with Britthaven Nursing Home. Gwendolyn loved to cook, clean, and move furniture. She was an avid reader and loved watching TBN.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Robert Gilbert, Sr.; daughter, Florence Williams; son, Robert Gilbert, Jr.; brothers, James Williams and Nelson Hardy; sisters, Geraldine Dixon Carpenter, Shirley Johnson and Wanda Cogdell.

She is survived by her daughters, Benita Gilbert (Gregory Massey) and Lori Gilbert; son, Michael Young (Tina); grandchildren, Michael, Joshua, Janessa, Jania, Ania, Nicholas, Jaylin, Brittany, and Myla; great-grandchildren, Julianna, Coldyn, Lenoxx and Lohgan; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1pm-2pm on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Sossoman Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2pm in the Colonial Chapel of the funeral home with Rev. Willard Watkins and Bishop Sherwood Davis, Sr. officiating. Burial will follow in Olive Hill Cemetery.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
