Fred A. Setzer, 92, of Burns Street, Drexel, NC went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 29, 2011 at Grace Hospital after a period of declining health. Fred was born in Burke County on August 12, 1918 to the late Ralph Newton Setzer and Martha Ella Benfield Setzer. He was a World War II U. S. Army veteran and retired Drexel Heritage Furnishings quality control inspector. Fred was a member of Drexel First Baptist Church where he served for many years as an usher for services. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.Fred is survived by son, Jim Setzer and wife, Fran of Drexel and son, Freddie Setzer of Drexel; a sister, Thelma Coffey of Morganton, NC; granddaughter, Shanda Lewis and husband, Alex of Chapel Hill, NC; a great-grandson, Finley Lewis also of Chapel Hill; and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Sue McNeely Setzer; brothers, Lenoir, Jay, Albert, Newton, and Truman; and by sisters, Beatrice, Mabel, Ruby, Oral Belle, Barbara, and Mary.Graveside services for Fred A. Setzer will be held Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 12:30 p.m. at Drexel Memorial Park with the Rev. Tito Madrazo officiating. The family will receive friends at Sossoman Funeral Home & Crematory Center from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. The family will be at the residence of Freddie Setzer, 2612 Buford Drive.
