Frank Herbert “Herb” Lambert, 88, of Glen Alpine, NC passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2016 while surrounded by his loving family.  Born in Valdese, NC on January 12, 1928, he was the son of the late Haywood and Jennie Burns Lambert.

He was a member of Mtn. View #2 Baptist Church and was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, having served 1946-1947.  Herb was nationally known for his bluegrass music and was a world champion mandolin player.  He won numerous awards and trophies throughout the years with his mandolin and was also a master carpenter until his retirement.  Herb was an avid fisherman, but his passion and love were for the Lord, his family, and bluegrass music.  He was also passionate about sharing his gift of music with other young aspiring bluegrass musicians through private lessons.

Herb is survived by his wife of 51 years, Helen Fox Lambert of the home; a daughter, Linda Lambert Scott (Victor); step-daughters, Patsy Fox Childers (Grady) and Connie Fox Ritenour (Clyde); a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a niece, Gail Lambert Gay; and nephews, Richard and Rodney Lambert.

In addition to his parents, Herb was preceded in death by a sister, Nannie Mae Lambert Whisnant; a brother, Milford Lambert; a step-daughter, Linda Fox Hartzog; and a step-son, Gary Fox.

The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m., Saturday, October 1, 2016 at Mtn. View #2 Baptist Church.  The memorial service will be follow at 4 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Ken Mashburn officiating.  Military honors will be provided by the N.C. National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
