Frank D “Hotdog” Smith, 90, of Morganton passed away on Monday, December 18, 2017 at his residence.  Born in Burke County, NC on June 18, 1927, he was the son of the late Forrest Smith and Minnie Hildebran Smith.  Frank was a member of Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church.  He worked at Breeden’s Poultry for over 20 years.  He had also worked at Carolina Shoe and Omara.  Frank enjoyed hunting (especially turtles), fishing, and cutting wood.  He also enjoyed working in his garden.

Mr. Smith is survived by his son, Glen Edward Smith of the home; grandchildren, Jerry Penley and wife, Tamara, Jody Smith and wife, Lisa, and Jeff Smith and wife, Kellie; 7 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leroy Smith.

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ruby Penley Smith; sons, Frank Calvin Smith, Jr. and Donald Ray Smith; brothers, Raymond Smith and Bobby Smith; and a sister, Estelle Huffman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Friday, December 22, 2017 at Walker’s Chapel Baptist Church.  The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. in the church with the Rev. Danny McNeilly and the Rev. Dr. Steve Parker officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
