Clara Lee "Polly" Huffman passed away Wednesday, January 11, 2012 at Burke Hospice. Polly was the daughter of Effie Blackburn Watts and Rev. Finley C. Watts. She was born on December 19, 1926 in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Polly began her collegiate education at Mars Hill College at the age of fifteen. Upon graduation, she worked with Northwestern Bank. In 1950, Polly married Frank Huffman, Jr. of Drexel, N.C. and soon moved to Drexel. She worked for Drexel Heritage Furnishings for over thirty years serving as administrative assistant to the Vice President of Sales. Polly retired in the early 1980s and spent the decades that followed enjoying her family and volunteering in her church and community.Polly was deeply committed to her family and friends. She loved without reservation and was kind and thoughtful to everyone she met. For much of her adult life, she taught Sunday School at Drexel First Baptist Church. She also served as an officer in the local garden club. For all of her life, she worked for the good of her family, her community and her church.Polly is survived by three children, Jane Adaire Huffman of Drexel, Lydia Huffman Hoyle and husband, Rick, of Cary, and Frank Robert Huffman and wife, Lynne, of Morganton; her brothers L. Earl Watts and wife, Jo Ann, and R. Victor Watts and wife, Millie; her sister, Alice Dare Watts Crews; sister-in law Doris Franklin; close family friends, Margaret Church, Mary Thomas, and Norma Shuford; niece, Elizabeth Berry Woody and husband, Bill, and many other nieces and nephews. Her grandchildren, Haley, Graham, and Cole Huffman of Morganton and Matthew, Michael, and Jessica Hoyle of Cary will miss her.Polly was preceded in death by her husband Frank Huffman Jr., as well as her parents and her brother, Clay Watts.A celebration of Polly’s life will be held at 3:00 on Saturday, January 14th, 2012 at Drexel First Baptist Church with Reverends Tito Madrazo and Buddy Corbin officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorial Contributions may be made to Drexel First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 308, Drexel, NC 28619.Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
