Charles Ivan Carlson, 93, of Morganton passed away Thursday, July 5, 2018.  Born in Duluth, MN on October 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Oscar and Julia Carlson.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Russell, Lester, and Warren Carlson.

Charles was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII, earning the Bronze Star for valor in a combat zone during action in the South Pacific.  Mr. Carlson had a 42-year career as a sales manager with Swift and Company.  Upon retirement, he and his wife relocated to Morganton, where they have resided for 26 years.  Charles was a lifelong Lutheran and a faithful member of Calvary Lutheran Church.  He was passionate about his family, faith, country, golf, and the Green Bay Packers.

Mr. Carlson is survived by the love of his life and wife of 68 years, Violet Carlson of the home; daughter, Barbara Schneider (Alan) of Morganton; son, Thomas Carlson (Patricia) of Fremont, CA; and grandchildren, David Charles and Karen Joyce Carlson, both of Fremont.

In accordance with his wishes, the family will have a private memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church, 119 N. King Street, Morganton, NC 28655 or to Burke Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1721 Enon Road, Valdese, NC 28690.

Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
