Carl L. Norman, 89, of Drexel, NC went home to be with Maw-Maw, his loving wife of 68 years, on Saturday, January 05, 2008 at Grace Hospital following a period of declining health. Born in Cleveland County, NC on January 1, 1919, he was the son of the late Lawrence Norman and Lola Ledford Norman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margie Deal Norman; brothers, Amos and Emmett Norman; and a sister, Selma Baker. Carl attended High Peak Baptist Church and was a US Navy Veteran of WWII.He retired as a supervisor from Drexel Knitting Mills after 60+ years. An avid hunter and fisherman, his most enjoyable moments were spent in his deer stand. Carl was a member of Mull’s Hunting Club. He was a loving father and pawpaw.

Carl is survived by daughters, Brenda Foss of Drexel, Priscilla Moretz and husband, Ted, of Charlotte, NC, and Rachel Griffin and husband, Ed, of Charlotte; a son, Larry Eugene Norman and wife, Molly, of Hickory, NC; a granddaughter, Tonya Shull Queen and husband, Dean, of Drexel; a brother, Loy Norman and wife, Dean, of Valdese; grandchildren, Lance Foss, Kendall Foss Brown, Chase Foss, Greg Griffin, Matt Griffin, Kirk Moretz, Stephanie Moretz, Kristen Moretz Oliver, Jacqueline Norman Fuentes, Cherise Norman Klutz, and Chuck Norman; and sixteen great-grandchildren.The funeral will be held at 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 2008 in the Colonial Chapel of Sossoman Funeral Home with Chaplain Dennis Stamper officiating. Entombment will follow in Burke Memorial Park Mausoleum with military rites to be performed by Valdese American Legion Post #234. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. At other times the family will be at the residence of the daughter, Brenda Foss, 1785 Drexel Rd., Valdese.
