Barry Nelson Shade

Barry Nelson Shade, 53, of Jamestown Rd. in Morganton died Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC. He was born December 7, 1955 in Burke County, and was a son of the late Charlie Reed Shade and Mabel Hardy Shade. Barry was a member of Chambers Chapel Baptist Church. He drove a school bus for 30 years for the Burke County School System, and then worked as a computer technician at Western Piedmont Community College.Barry is survived by his wife, Mary Summers Shade of the home; a son, Devin Nelson Shade of Morganton; a step-son, Chad Landon Summers of Louisiana; a daughter, Sonya Presley Small of Morganton; brothers, Lewis Shade of California, and Otis Shade of New Mexico; sisters, Clare Duncan of Texas, Shirley Long of Durham, NC, and Dollie Henry of Burlington, NC; and five grandchildren, Briana Presley, Desmond Presley, Elijah Small, Kylie Summers, and Kyra Summers.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James Shade.Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Chambers Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. Tommy Carpenter and Rev. Diane Connelly officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. at the church. Donations and gifts of food may be taken to the Chambers Chapel Baptist Church Fellowship Hall, 4089 Chambers Chapel Circle, Morganton, NC 28655. Sossoman Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
